The Modi government is focused to transform the dairy sector through cooperative model. Tomorrow i.e. on 19th September, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to release SOP (Standard operating Procedure) on White Revolution 2.0.
The goal is to bring more dairy farmers from the unorganized sector into cooperatives, ensuring they receive fair prices and provide quality products to the market, according to Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Singh was briefing media on the important decisions and achievements of Ministry for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying in 100 days of the third term of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
He emphasized that the focus is on states where dairy cooperatives have not performed well, and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is providing technical support to help these regions build cooperative models that offer farmers remunerative prices, adding that Uttar Pradesh, the largest milk-producing state, will be a priority for boosting its cooperative structure and bringing more farmers into the organized sector. The NDDB has already assisted in operating cooperative plants in Rampur and Mirzapur in the state.
The Madhya Pradesh government recently approved the transfer of operations of its State Cooperative Dairy Federation and affiliated milk unions to NDDB for the next five years. It is stated that there will be no dilution of the Sanchi brand as the agreement with NDDB is aimed at professionalizing the cooperative and boosting efficiency.
The NDDB has assumed control of functioning of few other state cooperatives including Mahananda Cooperative Dairy in Maharashtra and Sreeja Cooperative Dairy in Uttar Pradesh. The board has also collaborated with Odisha’s State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) to enhance marketing efforts and strengthen supply chains for the state’s dairy cooperative.
Earlier the Government formulated a plan to establish viable PACS in each uncovered Panchayat, viable dairy cooperatives in each uncovered Panchayat/village and viable fishery cooperatives in each coastal Panchayat/village as well as Panchayat/village having large water bodies, and strengthen the existing PACS/dairy/fishery cooperatives through convergence of various schemes of Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying by leveraging the ‘whole-of-Government’ approach. The Government has already set a target to establish 2 lakh PACS/ Dairy/ Fishery cooperatives in next five years.
